NSDF was back in Edinburgh for the third year running with the NSDF and Methuen Drama Emerging Artists' Competition supported by The Pleasance and Spotlight. NSDF Selectors selected the very best of student new work from the Fringe and the overall winner, Territory by Reuben Johnson, will transfer to the Pleasance 24-26 September 2009.

NSDF also ran a workshop with Spotlight on Thursday 20th August at the Fringe Venue Lecture Theatre 2, Edinburgh, looking at how to get started as an actor.

Past winners include Tony! The Blair Musical and Eight, winner of a Fringe First and the Carol Tambor Award.

The NSDF09 Edinburgh Emerging Artists' Award enabled myself and my cast to travel down to London and do our first professional run at Islington's Pleasance Theatre. The opportunity was invaluable to the cast in what it offered them in experience and exposure and for myself, as a writer, I made contacts and worked with creative masterminds that continue to help my writing career. (Ella Hickson, writer of Eight)

As the winner of the competition, the company of Territory will receive up to £1000 prize money to assist with their transfer costs to The Pleasance, Islington in September. The Pleasance will provide technical and marketing support and NSDF will provide professional theatre practitioners to assist with the transfer and help further the careers of the winning participants.

Everyone who entered the competition had their work seen by two NSDF Selectors and were eligible for the Spotlight Best Actor and Actress Awards as well as other commendations. To find out who won what at this year's Awards please click here. For a full list of shows that entered click here.
