What Happens if You Are Selected for NSDF11
My time at NSDF in 2010 was an absolute pleasure. It was one of those all too rare and beautiful occasions when we are lucky enough to be part of an encouraging, warm environment in which to learn and develop. The dialogue between students and professionals and the exchange of information and ideas between the two groups were as refreshing as I've seen and should serve as a paradigm for all educational and artistic endeavour. Long may it continue... (Akala, Hip Hop Shakespeare, Visiting Artist NSDF10)
On Saturday 5th March 2011 the whole Selection Team meets and discusses which 12 shows will be presented at the festival. Everyone who has entered a show into NSDF11 can ring the NSDF on Sunday 6th March 2011 and find out the results.
If you have been selected here is what you need to do: Make sure that all of you cast are available for the entire week of NSDF11 9th - 15th April 2011 - we ask people not to recast any of the parts, if you have any problems with your company you must notify NSDF BEFORE Selection Day.
Make sure that all of creative and technical team are available for the entire week of NSDF11 9th - 15th April 2011.
Your company needs to find the funds for your travel and accommodation for the week in Scarborough. Every member of your company also needs to have a Subscription Ticket, which as a Selected Show member you can purchase at the discounted rate of £90 per person. Your Subscription Ticket allows you to watch all the other performances, take part in a selection of 180 workshops from leading theatre professionals, all of the late-night evening events, daily discussions as well as receiving an NSDF programme and T-shirt.
You will need to recreate your production and so you will need to bring your set to Scarborough. NSDF will provide all technical equipment for your show, unless there is something very specific that you need which we will then discuss with you but you may need to cover these costs. The NSDF has a 70-strong Technical Team supported by Stage Electrics who will help recreate your show when you are at NSDF11.
NSDF11 also hosts a Technical Day in Scarborough at which you get to see you venue and talk through all of your requirements with our Technical Director, Venue Designer, Head of Sound and Head of Lighting. We ask that your Director (or equivalent) and Production Manager (or equivalent) attends Technical Day.
You will need to prepare your programme copy - we will need a photo, copy and a list of all participants.
The NSDF Director will schedule the festival and you will perform between 2 and 8 times depending on your capacity requirements. Your performances will be seen by everyone at the festival - 650 students, 70-80 theatre professionals and 150 volunteers.
Once everyone at the festival has seen your show we will discuss your show with everyone at the festival in a debate in the Stephen Joseph Theatre in the Round.
It was great to be a part of it and the talent and enthusiasm of everyone involved is really inspiring. (Katy Griffiths, ATG, Visiting Artist NSDF10)
