Local Organisers

LO group

The LO team is made up of students volunteers mainly from the University of Hull, Scarborough Campus. The Local Co-ordinators for NSDF10 are Becky Goode (Administration), Mark Clilverd (Front of House), Pamela Walinck (Workshops) and Olga Plocienniczak (Events Management). For the six months leading to the festival the LC's appoint train and manage a team of around 50 volunteers - the Local Organisation team (LO's). The LO's coordinate the front of house, box office, workshops and evening entertainments and much more. The LO's are always a fantastic and dedicated team, the majority of which have never been involved in NSDF before. The LO team survives on very little sleep during the festival (who doesn't), but they are there to help you whether you are a first timer or a repeat festgoer. This is your festival so have a great time and when you get a little lost just look out for one of our friendly faces and they will try their best to steer you in the right direction and make sure you don't end up in the sea.

Becky Goode - LC, Administration

Becky Goode

Even though Becky is trained in childcare, she has always known that she will be entertaining and performing somewhere down the line and university gave her this opportunity. She is in her final year at the University of Hull, Scarborough Campus studying a BA Hons in Theatre and Dance, and is currently in the process of applying for postgraduate courses in Dance Movement Therapy - which she hopes to pursue a career in, to combine both childcare, and theatre & dance. During her time at university, she has volunteered for On The Edge doing Front of House, and currently is employed at both the SJT and Spa Complex also doing Front of House. This is Becky's 3rd year in this festival. In the 1st year she had the position of Box Office Manager, and last year and this year she has the position of Local Co-ordinator for the administration. This is her final year of the festival and will miss it terribly! Not only has it has been a part of her university experience, but a learning curve, and useful for her future career. If you see her, go over and say hi, and give her a cuddle! She'll love it!

Mark ‘Sparky' Clilverd - LC, Front of House

Sparky

Since Mark was 9 years old he knew that he would have to spend his life entertaining one way or another. Mark trained in theatre at Paul's Theatre School in Hornchurch, in the London Borough of Havering. There he trained in many different performance styles including acting, mime and dance. The theatre school produced up to three shows per year in which Mark started off doing chorus work then later became a key member of the performance team, taking lead roles in plays and musicals such as Riff in West Side Story. Mark also performed in the West End with his theatre school performing musical medleys for the company ‘Mardi Gras'. Since attending University, where he adopted the nickname ‘Sparky', he has been able to understand different areas of theatre. At The University of Hull @ Scarborough Mark has been involved in designing and rigging lights for shows, stage design and learning how to produce a professional piece of theatre. Being his third year at the festival Mark has tried different roles within the local organiser's team and is this year in charge of the Front of House organisation for all venues.

Pamela Walinck - LC, Workshops

Pam

Pamela went to school in West Lothian, Scotland where she took a keen interest in music, dance and drama, taking all three subjects through her time there. She played trombone in the school jazz and wind bands, which went on tour to Holland, Germany and Paris, which included playing in Euro Disney. She also became involved in the school dance shows, assisting with the running of the performances as well, which won her an Award for Special Services to the School for her contribution to dance. She was also a part of several school musicals, in various roles from chorus member to a lead character. This love of performing led her to move to Scarborough to study a Theatre and Dance degree at the university, taking every opportunity to perform. During her time at the university she has been involved in assisting with Front of House for On the Edge, a series of performances from visiting artists and companies to the university, and this year has taken on the role of Box Office manager for the events. Pamela hopes to pursue a career in musical theatre in the future. This is Pamela's third NSDF and she is incredibly glad to be a part of it.

Olga Plocienniczak - LC, Events Management

Olga

Olga is a final year student of Tourism Management at the University of Hull. Within the broad area of tourism, her biggest interest and passion is festival and event organising. As a graduate of Russian Literature and Drama she has always taken immense pleasure in theatre too. Not surprisingly, as soon as she found out she can partake in such a phenomenal thing as NSDF she did not hesitate. Working as an LO at NSDF09 has been an incredibly rewarding experience in an extremely enjoyable and stimulating environment; it has also been a fantastic opportunity to develop some teamworking and communication skills while being part of a great nationwide theatre fest. Encouraged by the positive experience she has had working during the NSDF last year she decided to join the LCs team in a newly created position of LC, Events Management. She's really excited about the upcoming festival and looking forward to seeing you all.
