The North Wall Summer Festival

Pioneering theatre company, Paines Plough, premieres new work at the North Wall Summer Festival.

New drama from the UK's hottest young writers will be premiered at this year's North Wall Summer Festival, in Oxford.

Following last year's success with Mark Ravenhill's award-winning Shoot/Get Treasure/Repeat, Paines Plough, one of the UK's most important new writing companies, returns withTraces - a unique collaboration by six upcoming dramatists from Future Perfect, a national competition set up to discover the best young playwrights across the country. Combining strong writing and raw energy with the support of Channel 4 and Film Four, Traces will receive its UK premiere at The North Wall before going on to Latitude Festival.

A dazzling new theatrical experience that blurs the boundaries between theatre and explosive stand-up is also part of the Festival programme. An emotional rollercoaster for anyone who has hit 30 and wonders what they are doing with their life, Is Everyone OK?  is a collaboration between Fringe First winning playwright Joel Horwood and internationally acclaimed new writing company nabokov.

Family entertainment is on the agenda with the return of CBBC presenters Dan and Jeff in the hilarious family comedy Potted Pirates. Watch as the pair takes to the high seas in search of mysterious buried treasure and all things pirate.

Since opening in 2007, The North Wall Arts Centre has established a reputation for bringing to Oxford some of the most cutting edge theatre and writing companies across the UK. Festival theatregoers are invited to spot the stars of tomorrow, when fifteen of the most talented students from the National Student Drama Festival will premiere a new play, Touched, by celebrated writer Chris Thorpe. The NSDF Ensemble have been invited to hone their skills in a residency at The North Wall during the Festival when they will explore theatre-making in its widest sense and attend workshops and shows throughout the festival. Touched will also be heading off to Latitude later in the month.

In addition to ground-breaking theatre, the North Wall Festival welcomes some of the UK's sharpest stand-ups, who will be trying out new material at Oxford's very own Summer Comedy Festival before heading on up to Edinburgh.  And the Festival's music highlights include the world and UK premieres of work by Sir John Tavener.

The North Wall and its Festival The North Wall Arts Centre, in Summertown, Oxford, was opened in 2007 and has won major architectural awards for the quality of its design. The North Wall aims to offer an alternative to the mainstream, programming work that doesn't normally come to Oxford.

This is the third North Wall Festival. Previous Festivals have included Sir Richard Attenborough and Dame Judi Dench - but the focus is strongly on new, innovative work, with a special emphasis on the talents of young people.

The North Wall Festival is programmed by Jane Carter (music) and Holly Kendrick (drama). Holly is also director of the National Student Drama Festival.
