TheatreCraft 2019

Our Friends at TheatreCraft give you the details of this year’s event at the Royal Opera House..

TheatreCraft 2019

TheatreCraft happens every year and is a massive team effort between the Royal Opera House (where it’s hosted), MasterClass at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, Mousetrap Theatre Projects and Society of London Theatre. 1000 young people attend and it’s a great day to kick start the next phase of your career.

Totally free and open to 16 to 30-year-olds, TheatreCraft offers a unique glimpse into a wide range of non-performance careers from directing, stage management and producing to marketing, lighting and costume design. Whether students taking their first steps into a future career or young professionals looking for a job change, you can book your free place now via the TheatreCraft website, and sign up to an astonishing variety of workshops, talks, Q&As and backstage tours.

Here are some ways to make the most of your TheatreCraft experience this year…

You’ll be able to put your burning questions to theatre professionals in a series of ‘ask us anything’ Q&A discussions focused on apprenticeships, arts management, technical careers, stagecraft and creative careers. At the end of the day there will be an opportunity to watch leading Artistic Directors and TheatreCraft 2019 Ambassadors Yamin Choudury, Nadia Fall and Michelle Terry answer the question ‘why work in theatre?’

TheatreCraft returns to the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden this year, and the iconic building is lifting the curtain for special backstage tours, as well as insights into careers in costume, props and armoury. You can also pop over to neighbouring West End venues; Disney’s The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre is running technical tours and Mamma Mia! is opening up its legendary wardrobe department at the Novello Theatre.

Throughout the day, TheatreCraft offers exclusive opportunities to rub shoulders with the best in the business, and find out the secrets to their success. There will also be time to meet peers, share ideas and get tips on crafting a perfect CV. The Mandy Network is running a ‘top tips on getting that job’ session, and you can also book a ‘how-to guide for networking’ workshop to brush up your skills!

A dynamic ‘careers marketplace’ will run all day at the Royal Opera, with stalls from over 50 of the country’s top theatre organisations and arts education providers. Take the chance to wander the marketplace, chat to the exhibitors, pick up expert advice and even find out about any jobs and work experience currently available.

Everyone attending TheatreCraft this year will be entered into a raffle for free tickets to see some of the hottest shows in town that very evening, including Wicked, Only Fools And Horses The Musical, Noises Off, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, Come From Away and Death Of A Salesman – with more to be announced…
