Write for Noises Off
Applications to join Noises Off Magazine are open and the deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday 18th January.
PLEASE READ ALL THE INFORMATION BELOW BEFORE APPLYING HERE.
Noises Off is the magazine for the National Student Drama Festival, which next year will be held in Leicester.
During the festival we publish one print edition every day (for the last day we make a handmade zine) and upload rolling news online. It's a week to work closely with editors, to challenge yourself and to question the industry. We encourage experimental writing and we don't care if you haven't been published before.
Last year's content is here.
If you'd like to spend a week in Leicester discussing the good, the bad and the tonally distressing sides of young people's theatre and get your work in print then please apply. We're keen to extend opportunities beyond the week of the festival. Last year several of our writers went on to be paid for their writing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and continue to do so at national publications. You can read about Ava Davies' experience last year here.
Any questions, or if you require assistance in filling out this form, please don't hesitate to get in touch: [email protected].
Please note that we encourage a range of voices and all access requirements will be met.
You’re given this space to think and talk and think more about why we work in this industry, why we keep creating and responding to things. That’s rare. You won’t get that in many other places.

If you are selected, the cost is £60 for the week - access all areas.
Thanks to an amazing donation by the Arts Patron’s Trust, we have been able to cut the ticket prices (down from £120 to £60) and are able to cover the cost of catering for the Noises Off Critics Team in 2019. This means that as a member of the Noises Off Team you won't need to cover your own food costs, however, you will have to find and pay for your own accommodation (as everyone else at the festival has to).
We have a bursary scheme for anyone who thinks they might be eligible for a free ticket….again thanks to the Arts Patron’s Trust.
We are not intrusive. We would just ask you to fill out a simple form or provide us with a one page student finance statement.
If you are a university student and receive maintenance loans and grants from Student Finance, please include a scanned/photographed copy of your student finance statement. This is a one-page statement that you would have received prior to beginning this academic year that details how much maintenance funding you are awarded. This will be kept strictly confidential and is to help us ensure that the bursaries are granted to those most in need.
If you are not a university student please just complete the Your Circumstances sections on the form - giving us a brief overview of your circumstances and why you need the Bursary.
Bursaries are only available for anyone aged 19 years to 25 years as stipulated by the Trustees of the Arts Patron’s Trust.
NSDF encourages a diverse range of voices to apply and is a passionate believer in Equal Opportunities for all.
