A conversation about the collaboration process between director Ali Pidsley and designer Grace Smart, with reference to our production of Blasted by Sarah Kane. From initial concept, to what colour the vase should be, we’ll be looking at techniques for communicating what's in your head to each other.

Ali is a Director and Theatre-maker from Yorkshire. He is a co-founder of Barrel Organ who came through NSDF in 2014. As a Director, Ali's credits include 'NOTHING' and 'Some People Talk About Violence' with Barrel Organ, 'A Girl in School Uniform (Walks into a Bar)' by Lulu Razcka at the New Diorama and 'Blasted' by Sarah Kane at Styx.

Grace was the overall winner of the Linbury prize 2015 and regularly collaborates with the Lyric Theatre, Belfast. Grace writes a regular column in The Stage about her experience of being a set and costume designer. Grace is currently working on End of History (The Royal Court); One Night in Miami (Nottingham Playhouse and tour). www.gracesmart.com
