Making your own work from scratch can be a daunting process. Where do you start? What are the stages that will take you to a performance? How do you make sure that the work speaks deeply of the people who are making it and engages with the world around you? Source to Performance, developed in collaboration between artists and teenagers at Company Three, is a straightforward methodology for devising the work that you and your company care about. In this session we’ll work through the stages of the process to give you a practical understanding that you can apply to your own work.

James Blakey is the Associate Artistic Director of Slung Low. He is a theatre director with ten years’ experience of creating original works of performance in collaboration with community groups. His work has been presented in theatres including The Yard, The Royal Exchange and Hull Truck, and in community centres, shopping malls and on city streets. He is a former Associate Artist with Company Three and Staff Director at the National Theatre.
