Introduction to Lighting Design
Location: Curve Theatre
What is Lighting Design and how can you start a career in this industry? I'm not sure myself, but in this hands on workshop, we'll work through creating a theatrical lighting design as well as possible entry routes into the industry.
We'll have a full lighting rig at our disposal to explore how angles, colour, texture and intensity all play a part in creating a design, then use this to form our own scenes.
We'll discuss how direction, set and sound design informs the design process, and how a design develops from initial model boxes through rehearsals and up to Press Night.
Prerequisites: no prior knowledge will be necessary, you won't need to tell the difference between L201 and #371. The hands on portion will require the use of an ETC Ion lighting console, but we can help with that - just ask!
Elliot is a lighting design who first designed at NSDF09 before training at RADA in Stage Electrics and Lighting Design. Recent designs include: Fleabag (SoHo Theatre, NY); Richard III (Headlong, UK Tour); Wild Duck (Almeida); Lover / Collection (Pinter Theatre, West End); An Octoroon (National Theatre), Oracles (Punchdrunk); and some weird events like an underground boating lake for Captain Morgan.
