Who are we?

We are writers, actors, directors, producers, technicians, musicians, designers and critics. We are audiences. We are theatre lovers. We are the future.

This festival is for people who love theatre making it, watching it and talking about it. This festival is an opportunity to show your work, learn, discuss, write and try something new.

The National Student Drama Festival was founded in 1956 to encourage and celebrate the best and brightest student theatre that the UK had to offer. Since then, we've expanded and today we offer a platform where young people, regardless of they're in education or not, can come together and celebrate the power of performance.

We are made up of a dedicated team of associate artists, technicians and producers. We attract a community of young, passionate theatre-makers, who make their way to the Festival every year, to share their practice, share their talent, and try something new.

It's been such a privilege to be part of the discussions that were had @NSDFest both official and unofficial. Everything theatre is about.

The next Festival takes place March 24th to March 30th 2018. We are scouring the country, looking for the brightest and boldest work to present to our audience. If you think your show is great, then there's more information on applying for NSDF18 here. And we'll be announcing how you can get involved with the Management Team or Technical Team later this year.

Writer, performer & NSDF Selector Chris Thorpe chairs a discussion on the need for integrated and gender blind casting at NSDF17.
